Ken's Fare Deal express - coming to Walthamstow this Saturday

Ken Livingstone stepped aboard the Fare Deal Express last Thursday as he embarked on a whistle stop “Better off with Ken” tour of every borough in London! Ken's bus comes to Walthamstow this Saturday - March 31st - at the top of the High Street.

Click here to watch a new video that Ken has filmed about how London will be better off under him

This is a campaign that is built on strong Labour foundations; fighting for the people who are seeing their incomes hit by rising fares and their streets made less safe by falling police numbers.

EMD cinema Walthamstow - the fight continues

from Jennette Arnold's newsletter this month:

"As a heritage champion I have been a passionate supporter of the save Walthamstow Cinema campaign. The Cinema itself boasts a truly unique interior designed by the Russian designer Theodore Komisarjevsky.

Interior of the EMD Cinema

As the last theatre in the country to have an art deco interior of his design the cinema is a big part of both Walthamstow and the nation’s cultural heritage. Local people campaigned long and hard against the planning application submitted by the site's owner UCKG and to retain the the historic site as a cinema for the entire community. Waltham Forest Council did reject UCKG's application however they are now appealing the rejection, this will be heard in June. This appeal casts doubt about the venue's future and local residents are re-doubling efforts to make sure the rejection is not overturned.

You can find out more about the campaign here

I will continue to monitor this closely and work with local residents to see that this historic site can be a big part of Walthamstow’s growing arts scene."
