Movement for Change Residential Organiser School

Walthamstow CLP with support from the Movement for Change, is working on a number of campaigns involving local community organisations, and you can read more about these on the CAMPAIGNING page of this blog. I'm pleased to let you know now that Movement for Change, the home of community organising in the Labour movement, is holding its first ever residential organiser school on the weekend of 9-11 March 2012. EMD Update: How to Save our Cinema by Objecting

An appeal to overturn the Council's decision not to give permission for the conversion of the EMD cinema into a church has been submitted by the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG). Government planning inspectors will re-consider Waltham Forest Council's decision to deny UCKG planning permission last year and have the power to overturn the case and allow UCKG to convert our last cinema to religious use.

It is critical that cinema supporters write to the government’s planning inspectorate and register their objections to the UCKG's appeal. The deadline is 21 February. Object to 'change of use' on the Planning Inspectorate's website(scroll down the page and click 'Comment on this case'), email the case officer , or post objections to: Alan Ridley, The Planning Inspectorate, Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN. Please quote ref. APP/U5930/A/11/2165348 whichever way you appeal and include your name and address. Find the reasons to object on the campaign’s website

Ken takes lead over Boris in race for Mayor

Ken Livingstone has overtaken Boris Johnson in the race for City Hall by taking a narrow 51-49 lead.

With just over three months to go until the mayoral election, the contest is now wide open and either man could win on May 3.

A poll by YouGov suggests that in the first round of voting Londoners would line up 46 per cent for Mr Livingstone, 44 for Mr Johnson and seven per cent for Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick.

'If you’re not familiar with M4C (the catchy shorthand for Movement for Change), it’s the self-described “home for community organising within the Labour Party”, formed as part of David Miliband’s leadership campaign. The Lambeth meeting is an introductory session for Labour members, and the format fits somewhere between a corporate training day and group therapy.'
