"General Election 2015 - Why I'm Asking For Your Support" Stella Creasy

As of Monday 30th March 2015, I am seeking re-election to be the Local Labour and Cooperative MP for Walthamstow. I'm asking you to join me fighting for a better future for all in our community.

Walthamstow has so much to offer the world. The Tory led Government overlook the potential in people here, but for me it has been a privilege to serve our community these last five years. I’m standing for election again, determined to use my passion for social justice to fight for everyone here, so that everyone has the chance to succeed.

There is so much at stake at this election. Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen not only our NHS under threat – but our local hospital too. Britain has suffered the greatest fall in living standards for a century. Personal debt has risen, leaving many stuck borrowing from high cost lenders to make ends meet. The Education Maintenance Allowance has been scrapped, tuition fees have tripled and apprenticeships have been pushed out of reach.  Extortionate fees and rents are forcing people out of our area or into overcrowded and damp housing.

To change this, I believe we need a Labour Government - over the course of the coming weeks I'll be making the case to residents across Walthamstow about these issues and more during the election. Many residents have already sent me campaign emails and questions about policy issues which I will endeavour to respond to, and I am seeking to participate in as many hustings as I can. I will continue to produce these e-newsletter updates about our local area and the choice we face at the election as well as the issues being raised with me .

If you would like to help my campaign, display a poster supporting me or attend my campaign launch this Sunday 29th March with Dame Tessa Jowell at 5pm please email me.
Best wishes
Stella"

________________________________________________

Please note as Parliament is now dissolved Stella is no longer an MP - MPs no longer exist until the election. However what can you do if you need help which you would usually seek from your MP? In this week's newsletter Stella explains:

"As many public organisations will only deal with an official representative such as an MP, I wanted to let residents how this affects the assistance I can give them during this period of the general election.  Please note, I will continue to help in the best way I can given the restrictions placed on candidates.

During this period the Home Office will not accept any correspondence or representation from any former MPs. Unfortunately, this means that during the campaign I will not be able to ask them anything about immigration matters on behalf of any resident. However, residents can contact the helpline on 0300 123 2241 or if you have legal representatives they contact the Home Office for you as long as you have given your permission in writing.

You can also contact the Citizens Advice Bureau on 03444 889 626 or visit the advice Waltham forest website for further information on debt, welfare benefits, immigration, health and social care and more.

Some agencies have also agreed to continue to take queries from my office on behalf of Walthamstow residents. If you have an issue relating to welfare and the Department for Work and Pensions I will need you to provide written consent to raise your case with them.

If your query involves council services e.g. housing, parking, bin collection etc please call 020 8496 3000 in the first instance and ensure you ask for a reference number for your query. Your local ward councillors will continue to remain as elected officials during this time period and can also raise issues - you can find out who to contact at www.writetothem.com or visit walthamforest.gov.uk."
