Thank you to everyone who came to our campaign workshop on Saturday 17th November– you can see some more of the pictures from the afternoon here.This email is to let you know how what we decided to do to take action on these important issues. At the workshop we agreed three priorities for actions for each campaign with which any local member or supporter can help. To join with any of these actions please click the link below stating you would like to join and we will send you the project plan and contact details for this group. Housing: Set up a Landlord led letting agency as a cooperative to challenge the costs for tenants and landlords in the private sector Research the concept and establish feasibility. Establish a steering group and engage landlords. Identify and engage tenants who may benefit from a cooperative agency. Click here if you want to join the housing campaign  Healthcare: Renegotiate the PFI debt of Barts Health Trust to save money and protect healthcare services at Whipps Cross Hospital Develop a new model for funding NHS. Raise public awareness of the PFI scandal Stage a challenge to the legality of the PFI contracts Click here if you want to join the healthcare campaign  Voter Registration: Register an extra 1000 voters in Walthamstow before December 1st 2015 Link to other community groups, esp including BME/faith groups; and letting agents to remind people to register when they move house. Targeted door knocking for those households we know are not registered. Stalls in the shopping centre and schools and colleges to register 17 year olds and over Click here if you want to join the voter registration campaign  Austerity: Tackle the impact of austerity on Walthamstow’s residents Launch a campaign on low pay and the living wage, including tackling Turtle Bay on their unfair tipping practices, and campaigning for Waltham Forest council and its subcontractors to become living wage employers Invite representatives of other local campaigns and local people affected by austerity to speak at Labour Party events, and send Labour party delegates to meetings of other campaigns in turn. Create a directory of local services, benefits and campaigns which can be used by local people affected by cuts to get support. Click here if you want to join the austerity campaign  Already activities as part of these campaigns are being planned - if you would like to join these activities please reply to this email for further details: Saturday 31 October – voter registration action Walthamstow Faith establishments  – venue tbc 2pm Turtle Bay Tips Policy Protest – Friday 6 November 6pm outside Turtle Bay in Walthamstow Voter Registration in Hoe Street- Saturday 14th November - 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm venue tbc Given the urgency of ensuring people register to vote before December 1 2015, please read this short article and share it with anyone you know in Walthamstow - many residents may not realise that due to the Government's changes they could be removed from the electoral register so please do ensure you tell them and you register to vote today!  As well as these campaigns, we are seeking volunteers to help with delivering the leaflets for Sadiq Khan’s London Mayoral campaign – if you could deliver some of these over the next month please let Richard know. And our digital group is working on how best to share information with members and supporters online- if you would like to join this discussion please let Gerri know. Finally, a reminder that our CLP AGM is coming up on November 19th and your local branches* will be having their AGMs earlier in November too (check here for updates).
