Cycle routes during the Victoria Line closure
The Victoria Line is now closed for the rest of August (along with the footpath to Queens Road station). Rather than use the overground it might be quicker and easier, (and cheaper!) to use a bike route, possibly just to get to Finsbury Park and pick up the Vic from there.
Below are links to some cycle routes starting from around Walthamstow Central suggested on the Waltham Forest Cycling Campaign website. Check their routes page for the full details, return routes and alternative routes.
- Finsbury Park & Manor House, 8 km.
- Leyton Tube, 5.8 km.
- Leytonstone Tube, 3.4 km.
- Seven Sisters, 5 km.
- Snaresbrook, 4 km.
- Stratford Tube, 7 km.
- Tottenham Hale, 3.5 km.
They’ve also had offers of help to make your first commute as easy and safe as possible with 'Ride buddies' to show you the way. The destinations offered so far include:
- Walthamstow Queen’s Road Station to Kings Cross/Farringdon
- Wood Street to Hackney Road
- Lea Bridge Road (outside the Samaritans) to Battersea
- Greenleaf Road to Clerkenwell
- Campbell Road to Liverpool Street, mostly on quiet back-roads
- St James St to Euston station
- Walthamstow Central to Stoke Newington and Highbury & Islington
- Lighthouse Chapel in Markhouse Road to Camden Lock
- Quiet route from Walthamstow to Bloomsbury
- Rensburg Rd / Coppermill Lane to South Kensington
- Explore the route to central London, taking in all the stations from Euston to Victoria
- Walthamstow Central to Shoreditch High Street

Stella Creasy leads the deputy leadership race in latest LabourList survey
The latest survey on the LabourList site asks:
"Who do you want to be Labour’s deputy leader? In the past, for the largest amount of LabourList reader the answer to this question has been Tom Watson.
"Who do you want to be Labour’s deputy leader? In the past, for the largest amount of LabourList reader the answer to this question has been Tom Watson.
"However, this week Stella Creasy has take a 4 point lead over Watson, with 31% choosing her. Watson received 27% of the vote. Last time round Watson secured 33% of the vote, while Creasy was on 27%. The two have switched positions – although Creasy has a slightly smaller lead than Watson did. This change could be down to the fact that numerous hustings have taken place and candidates have had more time to set out their stalls. Therefore opinion may have shifted the more exposure readers have had to particular candidates."

Leader and Deputy nomination meeting - Walthamstow CLP supports:
In a packed meeting Walthamstow CLP nominated Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour Party Leadership, and its own MP Stella Creasy for the Deputy Leadership. In accordance with the new rules on leadership selections the meeting - held today Saturday 25 July 2015 - was open to all party members within Walthamstow, and all supporters who had affiliated to the party through membership of an organisation affiliated to the Labour Party (see here for full list of affiliated organisations).
Two separate ballots were conducted using a single round preferential vote system. Under this system voters allocate preferences for each candidate (from 1 - 4 for leader, or 1 - 5 for deputy, or as few preferences as they wish). The candidate with the fewest 1st preferences drops out and the 2nd preferences are then re-allocated; this repeats to the lower preferences till one candidate has 50%+1 of the vote.
