The Guardian "MP throws charity boss out of parliament after row over residents"

From the Guardian on Thursday:

Stella Creasy says chair of Glasspool Trust, which sold flats to a developer, said ‘It happens’ when confronted over evictions

The chair of a poverty charity found himself being escorted out of parliament by a police officer after a bad-tempered meeting at which he told an MP the eviction of long-term tenants from flats sold by the charity was not his problem.
Keith Nunn, chair of trustees for the Glasspool Trust, said “It happens” when asked about the impact on the tenants, some of whom are vulnerable families, according to the Labour MP for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy.
Creasy said she was so appalled by the attitude of Nunn, an executive in the energy industry, that she ended the meeting and asked a police officer to escort him out of parliament.
The Glasspool Trust, which makes individual grants for household goods to people in poverty, has faced significant criticism after selling 63 flats it had owned for decades in Walthamstow, north-east London, to a property development firm without first informing tenants or offering them the chance to buy the homes.
. . . . The new owner, a newly-formed private property development firm, has begun evicting a number of residents and has already resold some of the flats. The company says it plans to gradually evict the remainder of the residents, some of whom have lived in the area for many years.

‘Walthamstow is in Business’ Cooperative Party reception, Parliament Monday 14th March

The Cooperative movement is the only political movement built on the foundations of business and this event has been put together to allow attendees to find out more about the support available around walthamstow for businesses, and how and why social forms of business engagement can bring added benefits to both business owners and the communities in which they work and live. There will also be plenty of time to meet other local business owners and entrepreneurs from the Walthamstow and Waltham Forest area.

Joining Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy, will be Chris Leslie MP, former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer and member of the Cooperative Party, Andy Dixon the Chair of Waltham Forest Cooperative Party, as well as Karen Hayes who runs the Tritons CIC in Walthamstow who will share her experience of setting up a social enterprise in Walthamstow.

Also on hand will be local representatives of business support organisations including the @stowstartup group, the Hive (a new business support programme the Cooperative Group has set up) the East London Business Alliance and many more. The East London Brewing Company which is based in Walthamstow has offered to bring some of their products for attendees to try - and of course non alcoholic refreshments will also be available too!

Please note as it is in parliament registration is essential for this event, and once registered you will need to allow approximately fifteen minutes to pass through security. The event is open to residents of Walthamstow and those who run businesses in the Walthamstow area, so if you wish to bring other people with you please do let us know as they would be very welcome.
